Aquaman Sinks Like A Stone

Half-human, half-Atlantean, Arthur is born with the ability to communicate with marine creatures and breathe underwater. He goes on a quest to retrieve the legendary Trident of Atlan and protect the water world., while on a journey to discover his real identity and powers.

Jason Momoa as Aquaman…but not everyone is a fan

Max Jacobson’s Review:

WHY DOES THE QUEEN OF ATLANTIS KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE SURFACE? There was too much telling instead of showing and every time Arther did anything remotely cool, that dumb guitar twang would play. CGI looked way too rubbery. The teen actor for Arther was hilariously bad. Manta was a pointless villain who I felt no empathy for. Mera’s costume was ridiculous and OCEAN MASTER? ARE YOU JOKING? The only thing I liked was the casting of Arther, he’s perfect, everyone else was ugh. I promise I won’t be as pessimistic in the future 🙂

Pedro’s Review:

Aquaman is not for everyone, but if you want to entertain yourself with a completely self-aware, colorful, cheesy superhero movie, I am sure you are going to have a blast. This movie definitely follows many superhero conventions: an evil villain, the hero in a journey to find his real role as a king, and a cliche romantic arc throughout the plot. Additionally, Aquaman clearly takes a lot of inspiration from adventures by Indiana Jones and cinematography from Avatar, but still, the talent behind the screen can’t be ignored. James Wan, the director, shows domain over his work, giving a style and look that fits the whole purpose of his work. Costumes and special effects gave a superb look to this colorful over the top aquatic world. However, Aquaman is far from perfect. The 1st act is clearly rushed and lacks in essence, the villain is cliche, and the characters can’t stop saying over motivational quotes (“we don’t need a king, but a hero!”). Overall, I can’t say I disliked Aquaman: it is very entertaining and bald in various aspects, however, there is much to be improved.

Balduin’s Review:

“Decent” is the best way to summarize a cheesy, predictable, and over the top superhero movie. Aquaman is perfect for viewers that enjoy impressive cinematography and flashy colors. One did not come for the plot. It is anything but memorable. The antagonists are boring, there is very little suspense, and one never fears for the protagonist’s well-being. Overall I still enjoyed aspects of this movie. Jason Momoa gives the movie a fruity again making it a “decent” film in my view.

Bosco’s Review:

Not even Jason Momoa can save this movie. It has colorful corals and lots of action scenes but it doesn’t prevent us from feeling boredom. Nevertheless, the movie starts off with an entertaining romantic-comedy start with some pretty good acting. However, from that point on the film just gets worse. In my opinion, this is one of the worst, if not the worst DC movies, which include, superman, batman, wonder woman…. etc. Although I think Jason Momoa makes a very good Aquaman.

Kevin’s Review:

This movie I would suggest is a one-time watchable superhero movie. There is nothing much of it stands out compared to the other movies except for the CGI and the beautiful locations it takes place in, from dry deserts to deep flooded seas. The storyline is basic, a usual dual between a hero and villain with several memorable characters. One thing this movie really needs to improve is the costuming. For example, Amber Heard, all she lacked was the fishtail, if not you could clearly say she was Ariel from The Little Mermaid, as the hair color and the sea blue costume she got proves it. To be honest, her character really did not have much of an impact on the movie or the storyline.

Then we have Black Manta, a suit with several gadgets in it, a little bit more upgrades could have made him more of an Ant-Man antagonist. His characterization could have been improved, as his goals were not really justified avenging his father’s death and he really did not seem to be focusing on that. Moving onto the story, the director does attempt to bring surprises to grab the attention of the audience but they were really not that effective, like claiming his mother was never dead. I felt that movie at least went on a good emotional trail until it lost potential for that as well. The movie is just another regular with one change: it takes place in the deep sea. The shots were amazing for example the red flare drilling under the sea or the setting where they locate the mother but in the end, there is nothing much to praise this movie about. Overall this movie is fine but could be better improved.
