Fall Sports Report 2021

Heading into the Fall Sports season, our Lions are ready to roar. We have high hopes this season with Mr. Hart summarizes his thoughts on the season as, “full of focused students and sustained growth, moments of tenacity and resilience. Mixed with moments of covid frustrations magnifies the student experience of galvanizing as a team.”

As our Rugby Varsity and Junior Varsity team heads into their fall season, they show great resilience even after sustaining a loss for their Varsity Boys team against ISZL. With ZIS scoring 0 tries against the International School of Zug and Luzern astonishing 6 tries, with 6 of our players injured we still managed an excellent game. Our Junior Varsity team managed a tie against our international neighbors from Zug with 5 tries and 5 conversions each. Our lions are ready to head into the upcoming games, with the school’s full support.

“Mr. Ramsey, Mr. Peake and myself are very excited about getting back to full contact rugby games this Fall, after nearly two years. We have fantastic Varsity and JV squads captained by Victor and Olof, and Harry and William respectively and appreciate the great support that is always offered by our community!”

“That’ll show them who’s Sheriff round here”

Both the Varsity and the Junior Varsity teams demonstrated exceptional play in their first Tournaments. Leading 3-0 against ISZL in the first game, the Junior Varsity boys wrapped up the tournament with an outstanding 9-0 win against Tasis. Winning all 3 games, ZIS is tied with ICS and is preparing for the ISSL final in October. The Varsity boys fought equally hard and are top of the table with 9 points. Again ZIS won all 3 games and we are now anticipating the final against ICS, where with a win or draw, ZIS will be crowned champions. With a strong start to the season, we have everything to play for and a lot to look forward to this year

The Barefoot Foundation Club, led by Isabella Sanchez Robayo, set up an excellent stand with burgers, cakes, and more! In total, the club raised 500 CHF for the education of children in Columbia. Home games are always a fantastic opportunity for our whole school community to get involved. Don’t forget to look out for more.

Girls Football

Girls Football Varsity Team

From the first game of the season, the Junior Varsity girls smashed it with a 10-3 win against ISZL. With excellent play and team spirit, we are looking forward to their games this year. Despite a false start in the first match, the Varsity team pushed back hard and we’ve seen some great football. Co-Captains Daisy Wright and Yasmin Delfgaauw led the team to a 3-1 win against Tasis, 2-1 win against ISB, and a draw with ISZL. We are anticipating the October match that will determine ZIS champions of the tournament with a win against ICS.

Volleyball

Our lionesses have been storming through all their games so far this season. Our Junior Varsity girls put up a great fight in the ISSL tournament held in Lugano. Losing only 1 of the 4 games we are to be awarded 2nd place. Consistently scoring 2 sets to 0, the Varsity girls remained undefeated. With all their hard work ZIS has been crowned ISSL 2021 Volleyball Champions.

Across the breadth of sports this season, we have seen a brilliant effort from every one of our athletes. Their success has been amplified by the sportsmanship, leadership, skill, and support from all our coaches, students, parents, and staff.

Congratulation on a fantastic season. Go Lions!
